A woman claims she was sexually assaulted by her husband and that his behaviour caused her to become “irate and depressed”.
The woman, who did not want to be named, told the Today programme on Monday that she was “really angry” and said her husband forced her to have sex and massage him.
She said the incident happened in January last year and she believes she was abused because of her husband’s “unwanted” sexual advances towards her.
“I was really upset because he said I had to do this,” she said.
“And he told me if I didn’t do it, I’d have to do something with my life.”
She said she then felt so “disgusted” and “uncomfortable” that she started “banging” her husband.
“The feeling was so bad that I had a huge anger,” she told Today.
“But I couldn’t bring myself to leave him.”
The woman said she didn’t realise the impact the incident would have on her life until a month later when she went to see her GP.
“Afterwards, I had so much anger towards him, I couldn and couldn’t even be with him,” she recalled.
The woman had tried to take her own life after the incident.
“It took me a long time to realise what had happened, but I know I’m lucky that I was able to get help,” she explained.
“If it hadn’t been for him, my life would have been completely different.”
Ms Raby, who lives in the UK, said she has struggled with depression since the incident and is now receiving counselling.
“At the time I thought I was crazy and thought it would never happen to me again,” she continued.
“This is just one more reminder that you have to keep your head up, don’t give in to the demons that have been in your life and keep fighting.”
